On Wednesday evening, 10 June 2026, the eighth group of displaced people from Afrin returned to their homes and villages as part of the implementation of the 29 January agreement signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian Interim Government, which provides for facilitating the return of displaced residents to their areas of origin.

The group consisted of around 1,700 families who had been living in the cities of Qamishli, Girke Lege and Derik. They set off at dawn from the Martyr Yusuf Kelo roundabout in Qamishli and travelled towards Afrin.

This follows the return of seven previous groups during March, April and May, when thousands of displaced people were transported from the Jazira and Kobani regions back to Afrin and its surrounding areas.
