The PUK faction in the Iraqi parliament expresses worry about the infractions the governor of Kirkuk has committed without referring to provincial laws, saying: "The provincial budget is set aside for the personal interests of the governor, and we tell the Kirkuki people that we will not permit these violations to persist and urge the Financial Supervision Bureau to keep a close eye on the contracts for Kirkuk projects and reveal any instances of corruption."

In a letter of protest addressed to the prosecutor general, the head of the finance committee, and the prime minister of Iraq, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) faction stated: "Based on the Federal Financial Supervision Bureau's report, we discovered that Kirkuk province requires a clear and transparent mechanism for the provision of service projects in various sections of the province."

"While the Emergency Security Law No. 2 of 2022 mandates that the province relies on the population, plans, and data of administrative units when enforcing the law, what is currently taking place is against that law, and the acting governor of Kirkuk is breaking the law, which is a form of corruption," PUK faction added.

The Kirkuk governor abuses his authority for personal gain
The fraction declared, "We urge the Iraqi prime minister to conduct a thorough investigation into these violations as the governor of Kirkuk is abusing his authority for his own benefit and the groups around him. One of the most obvious violations is the allocation of 15% of the provincial budget for strategic projects without any legal support."
Kirkuk budget should not be used for personal interests
"We will not vote for the 2023 budget bill if all projects in the province are not closely monitored, and we will not allow the provincial budget to be used for the acting governor's personal interests. As a result, we will bring the issue up in front of the Iraqi parliament's Finance Committee so they are aware of what is going on in Kirkuk," said the faction.

They also urged the Financial Supervision Bureau to work to uncover cases of corruption and mismanagement of public resources by auditing the contracts for Kirkuk projects. The PUK faction also informed Kirkuk residents that they will continue to watch the situation in the province, put an end to it, and reject discrimination against Kurds, particularly in the two districts of Qarahanjir and Shuan where they receive little services.
