PUK Official: The PUK is prepared for any possibility in Iraq

A member of the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) confirmed that the PUK is ready for dialogue and negotiations, stressing that the PUK is prepared for any possibility.

"We do not complicate politics and think responsibly and are responsible for the fate of our nation and country," Amin Babasheikh, a member of the Political Bureau and head of the Relations Bureau of the PUK, tweeted on Tuesday.

"We are closely monitoring political developments in Iraq, and are waiting for the constitutional and legal procedures on the resignation of the Sadrist bloc MPs and the PUK is prepared for any possibility," he added.

Sadrist bloc MPs submitted their resignations to the speaker of the Iraqi parliament last Sunday, who in turn signed their resignation letters.

The Sadrist Movement won the previous elections held last October and is the largest bloc in the Iraqi parliament with 73 MPs. Jaafar Sadr was recently nominated as the movement's candidate for the post of prime minister, but he also withdrew from his candidacy and the parliament has not yet met to select the prime minister due to disagreements over the presidency post.

Some political leaders are calling for dissolving the parliament and conducting early elections once again.

Over six months after the election, Iraq has only been able to elect the Parliament Presidency. The country is currently at a deadlock as political parties have failed to reach an agreement on electing the new president and forming the government.
