Iraqi President: Cutting down trees in Kurdistan Region is an environmental crime
Kurdistan 09:25 PM - 2021-06-03.
The Iraqi President Barham Salih on Thursday described cutting down trees in the border areas of the Kurdistan Region as an environmental crime.
Salih in a tweet wrote, "In addition to the military build-up, abuse of sovereignty, violence and displacement of civilians from their homes, cutting down forests in Hrur, Bativa and other border areas in the Kurdistan Region, are inhumane practices and an environmental crime that should not be overlooked."
The Iraqi President added, "It is our duty to coordinate practically between the authorities of the federal government and the Kurdistan Region to stop abuses and hold the perpetrators accountable."
On April 23, the Turkish army began military operations in the border areas of the Kurdistan Region, killing and wounding civilians, targeting forests and farms, at a time when all local and official appeals failed to convince Turkey to stop its military operations inside the Kurdistan Region.
