Barham Salih, Barzani discuss latest developments in Iraq, KRG

On Saturday, April 10, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.

 

During the meeting, they discussed politics, economics and the security situation in Iraq and Kurdistan Region.

 

The meeting focused on the need to have further dialogues between the parties to promote stability as well as guaranteeing security and stability for all the citizens and meeting their daily needs.

 

The two leaders agreed how important it was to implement the items of the Federal Financial Budget for the year 2021, in the way that ensures people's needs. The approval of the Budget is a good step towards resolving long lingering issues between the Federal Government and the KRG, and this need to be worked out according to the Iraqi Constitution, thereby guaranteeing all Iraqi citizens' rights.

 

Both stressed the importance of the next federal election for Iraq.  They agreed on the need to ensure optimal conditions for a secure and transparent vote, and it therefore will reflect Iraqi people's will to choose their representatives in Iraqi parliament. In this way, we could ensure that the vote was free and fair and that there was no fraud or manipulation, they emphasized.

 

The meeting emphasized on the need to meet and overcome the challenges and to build security and stability.
