Bafel Talabani: passage of 2021 budget bill is a positive step to a better future between KRG, Iraq

The Co-president of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Bafel Talabani, on Sunday received a high-level American delegation, consisting of Gen. John Teichert, chief advisor of the US military forces in Iraq, and Rob Waller, the US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, and the accompanying delegation.

 

During the meeting, which was attended by Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Aso Mamand, a member of the Political Bureau, and Jalal Shekh Naji, head of the intelligence establishment in the Peshmerga forces, the latest political, security, and economic developments were discussed, and both sides emphasized greater cooperation and coordination between the Kurdistan Region and the United States of America, in order to provide stability and safety in the region.

 

Adding to that, Bafel Talabani referred to the matter of approving the general federal budget, declaring that the approval of the budget is a positive step and an important beginning for rapprochement and harmony between the Kurdistan Regional and Federal government to address other outstanding problems and end disputes.

 

The second axis of the meeting discussed the movements of ISIS terrorist organizations, as the two sides stressed that there are risks to this terrorist organization on the security and stability of the region. The close relations and coordination between the Peshmerga and American forces were described as the mission, and the visions between the two sides agreed that confronting the terrorist organization ISIS is everyone's responsibility and it is necessary to intensify our efforts for this issue.

 

In addition to the Kurdistan Regional Government's efforts to reform and train the Peshmerga forces, praise was given to the importance and necessity of the role of the United States, while the Co-President of the Patriotic Union called on the delegation to cooperate and coordinate more.
