Arab Parliament, Egypt condemn Erbil rocket attack

Both Egypt and the Arab Parliament condemned the rocket attack that targeted the Kurdistan region's capital Erbil.

 

During a statement Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al-Asoumi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, expressed his total rejection of all terrorist acts that target civilian and vital installations that contradict all international norms and laws, stressing at the same time the Arab Parliament's full support for the measures taken by the Republic of Iraq to protect its security and maintain its stability.

 

Al-Asoumi renewed the solidarity of the Arab Parliament and its complete stand with the Republic of Iraq in its war on terrorism and terrorist groups, and its support in all measures it takes to confront any party trying to undermine its security and sovereignty and interfere in its internal affairs to destabilize security and stability in it.

 

The President of the Arab Parliament expressed his sincere condolences to the leadership, government and people of the Republic of Iraq, and to the families of the victims in this abhorrent terrorist incident, and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

 

For its part the Arab Republic of Egypt also condemned on Tuesday, the missile attack on the city of Erbil.

 

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Egypt expresses its sincere condolences to the government of the Republic of Iraq and its brotherly people and to the families of the victims in this abominable terrorist incident, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.

 

The statement added that Egypt affirms its support for Iraq in the measures it takes to protect its security and safeguard its stability, and expresses its confidence in the ability of brotherly Iraq to decisively confront those terrorist practices, which will not dissuade it from its tireless efforts to establish security throughout its territory, in a manner that preserves its stability and preserves its national capabilities.

 

On Monday night, security sources in the Kurdistan Region said that at least three rockets were fired in the direction of the Erbil city’s airport, where foreign troops are based as part of an international coalition fighting ISIS.

 

A contractor working with the foreign troops was killed and 9 people were injured including civilians.
