Iraq reports new coronavirus strain, suspends all sporting activities

The Iraqi Ministry of Health and Environment on Monday announced that it had recorded a new strain of the coronavirus in the country.
Health Minister Hassan Al-Tamimi said during a press conference that the new strain could affect children, and several cases have been recorded.
He pointed out that the medical teams will continue their tasks and impose fines on violators, starting tomorrow, Tuesday.
"We call on everyone to adhere to the decisions of the Supreme Committee …. We warn you of the danger of the new strain," Al-Tamimi added.
On the other hand, the Supreme Committee against the coronavirus announced the suspension of all sporting activities as part of the coronavirus prevention measures.
MP Arazu Mahmoud, a member of the Parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee told PUKmedia that as stated in the statement of the Supreme Committee, the decision includes all sporting activities, including the Iraqi Premier League football matches.
She added that the duration of the suspension is still not specified.
