The exchange rates of foreign currencies against the Iraqi dinar slightly increased on Sunday, in the currency markets of the Kurdistan Region.
Owner of one of the currency exchange offices in Sulaymaniyah, Shwan Hadi, told PUKmedia: With the opening of the currency markets, the prices of most currencies increased, as the exchange rate of 100 US dollars against the Iraqi dinar reached 143 thousand and 600 dinars.
The prices of the remaining currencies against the Iraqi dinar are as follows: (100 pounds = 194.000 dinars. 100 euros = 175,000 dinars. 100 Turkish lira = 19.500 dinars. 100 thousand Iranian tomans = 5.950 dinars.)
Iraq, which largely relies on oil sales, is facing large budget deficit due to the drop in oil prices as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, where the Iraqi government has deducted government employees salaries, as well as a currency devaluation by almost 20% in the yet to be voted on 2021 budget to address the problem.
