Iraqi President Nizar Amedi has condemned the attacks targeting the cities of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, describing them as an unacceptable violation of Iraq's sovereignty and a threat to the country's security and stability.

In a statement published on X on Saturday, the President said the attacks on the two cities represented an infringement of Iraqi territory, regardless of the justification offered.

"We condemn the attacks targeting the cities of Erbil and Sulatmaniyah, and we affirm that any targeting of Iraqi territory, under any pretext, constitutes an unacceptable violation of Iraq's sovereignty and threatens the security and stability of its citizens," he said.

President Amedi stressed that Iraq rejects becoming an arena for regional conflicts or a battleground for settling external disputes.

"Iraq refuses to be an arena for conflicts or a battleground for settling regional scores, and reiterates its commitment to relations based on mutual respect and good neighbourliness, preserving the sovereignty of states and sparing the peoples of the region further escalation and instability," he added.

Missile and strikes hit several locations in Sulaymaniyah, while other were intercepted in the skies over Erbil on Friday, without any reported casualties amid a series of recent aerial security incidents across the Kurdistan Region, as tensions continue to escalate following the conflict between the United States and Iran.
