On Tuesday, 7 July 2026, Finland's Ambassador to Iraq, Antti Putkonen, visited the resting place of President Mam Jalal, where he was warmly received by the Bureau of the Secretariat of President Mam Jalal.

After laying a wreath as a mark of respect, Ambassador Putkonen paid tribute to President Mam Jalal's leadership and his enduring contribution to the Kurdish people. He praised the late leader's pivotal role in rebuilding the new Iraq, highlighting his lifelong struggle and dedication to the Kurdish cause.

During his remarks, Ambassador Putkonen quoted a well-known verse by the renowned Kurdish poet Haji Qadir Koyi:

"Death and life are like shadow and sun;
What remains immortal is only one's life story and good name."

He added: "These words apply perfectly to President Mam Jalal. We will all pass away, but what matters most is how your name and legacy endure with honour and greatness."

The Bureau of the Secretariat of President Mam Jalal expressed its appreciation for the ambassador's visit, reaffirming the longstanding historical ties between the Kurdish people and Finland.

"We hold in high regard the deep-rooted relationship between the Kurdish people and Finland, a country that has consistently stood close to our people's concerns and suffering," the Bureau said.
