PUK VP Commemorates Victims of Balisan and Sheikh Wasanan Chemical Attacks

Rifaat Abdullah, Vice President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), issued a message on the 39th anniversary of the chemical weapons attacks on the Balisan and Sheikh Wasanan.

The message reads as follows:

On the anniversary of the chemical attacks on Balisan and Sheikh Wasanan carried out by the former Iraqi regime in an attempt to break the will of the Kurdish people and the loyal residents of this region, the resilience and steadfastness of our people consigned the perpetrators of this crime to history, while our people remained strong and dignified.

On this occasion, we stress the need for the Iraqi Government to take the necessary measures to ensure that such crimes are never repeated, and to provide appropriate compensation to the victims and those affected by the policies of the former regime.

A salute to the memory of the martyrs of Khoshnawti and all the martyrs of Kurdistan.
