Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, has stressed that the lack of coordination between universities, institutes and the labour market remains one of the most significant challenges facing the Region. He noted that this gap has made it difficult for private sector companies to access qualified local talent, forcing them to rely on foreign labour, while young people and graduates continue to face uncertainty over employment prospects after completing their studies.

Talabani explained that efforts have been underway for several years to address this issue and strengthen cooperation between educational institutions and the private sector. He also expressed his appreciation to the MEED organisation for its role in promoting greater understanding between the two sides.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that representatives from universities, institutes and companies have agreed on a joint roadmap aimed at preparing skilled and qualified graduates in line with labour market needs, in direct coordination with the private sector. He emphasised that this initiative will help create more job opportunities for young people and reduce companies’ dependence on foreign labour.
