The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has allocated around 120 million dinars to support volunteers working in hospitals across Sulaymaniyah, underlining the city’s central role in providing public health services in the Kurdistan Region.

Dr Rahel Faraidun, Undersecretary of the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Health, confirmed that the PUK’s General Administration and Finance is covering the expenses for hospital volunteers in Sulaymaniyah.

Highlighting the contrast with other governorates, Dr Faraidun stated: “In Erbil, more than half of public sector health services are no longer available, with the private sector dominating provision. By contrast, Sulaymaniyah continues to rely primarily on the public sector, which delivers the majority of health services.”

The move reflects both the PUK’s commitment to supporting the healthcare system and Sulaymaniyah’s position as a hub of public sector provision in the Kurdistan Region.
