Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), welcomed a senior delegation of international coalition forces led by Joel B. Vowell, Commander of the Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve.

During the meeting, which was attended by Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Head of PUK's Relations Bureau, Aso Mamand, Member of PUK's Political Bureau, and Mark Stroh, US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, they discussed the most recent developments in security and military affairs, as well as the unification of Peshmerga forces.

President Bafel stressed during the meeting how successful national efforts have been in maintaining security and stability, saying: "We continue to work to maintain stability in our nation and to protect it from the instability that is common in the area. We are working together with the forces and political factions to accomplish this goal and keep our nation from turning into a battlefield for settling scores."

About the Peshmerga reorganisation, President Bafel stated: "We continue our endeavours to attain this ambitious objective and want to establish a solid national force based on balance and equality. We adamantly reject any intention that deviates from this goal and are against partisanship being combined with this national issue."

Commander Vowell, for his part, thanked President Bafel for his cooperation and support in getting the Peshmerga Ministry back up and running again as well as for helping to resolve some of its problems.
