PUK President: Our Goal is to Unite Political Forces

At the headquarters of the Political Bureau in Erbil, Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), welcomed a senior US delegation led by Acting Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland. 

The political climate and stability in the surrounding area were discussed. The importance of working together was emphasised in a meeting attended by Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, the head of the Relations Bureau, Dara Khaylani, the head of the Foreign Relations Board, and Alina Romanowski, the US ambassador to Iraq, to ensure the success of the political process as well as the preservation of security and peace in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. 

"To prevent the undesirable situation in the Middle East from affecting peace and stability in the surrounding area, we are in negotiations with various forces and parties and will continue our efforts to keep the country free of tensions and disputes," said President Bafel Jalal Talabani. 

Regarding the PUK's plans for the Kurdistan Region and its initiatives to unite the Kurdish people, President Bafel stated, "Our goal is to encourage unity and brotherhood among all political parties." We intend to overcome obstacles and collaborate to find solutions to problems. We must all work together to coordinate to maintain the region's entity and provide a stable living for our people." 

‎‏The U.S. delegation, in turn, emphasized the necessity of preserving the security of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and stated that they place a high value on regional stability and will continue their collaboration in this regard.
