Chinese Research Center Opened at Sulaymaniyah University

The inauguration of the China Research Center marks a historic milestone as it becomes the first of its kind in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the entire Middle East.
On Wednesday, the China Research Center in the Kurdistan Region was officially inaugurated at Sulaymaniyah University. The Iraqi First Lady, Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed, the Chinese Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, Liu Jun, President of the President Jalal Talabani Foundation Ambassador Dr. Mohammed Sabir, Governor of Sulaymaniyah, Haval Abubakr, and Rector of Sulaymaniyah University, Kosar Mohammed, were all present.
Ambassador Dr. Mohammed Sabir praised the university and the first Chinese research center in the Kurdistan Region and the Middle East, calling it a worthy undertaking.
"The establishment of this center will serve as a valuable platform for fostering relations between the Kurdistan Region and China, particularly in the fields of science, academia, economics, job opportunities, professional development, and increased access to scholarships for higher education students," he added.
Following that, Liu Jun, the Chinese Consul in the Kurdistan Region, delivered a speech in which he emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the two countries in the fields of academia and science, information sharing, and the rotation of educators and students.
He also expressed his delight at the establishment of the China Research Center at Sulaymaniyah University, hoping that it would mark the start of a solid partnership that would enable increased collaboration in the Kurdistan Region, benefiting both China and the Region across all domains.
"As the inauguration of this center indicates a significant accomplishment for the Kurdistan Region and Sulaymaniyah University, particularly for the "capital of culture," we should strengthen our ties with the rest of the world, particularly in our field of academic science, which serves as the foundation of the nation's progress," Haval Abubakr continued.
During his visit to Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani on November 16, 2023, Liu Jun announced the establishment of a Chinese Research Center at Sulaymaniyah University and said: "Efforts are being made to establish academic ties between Chinese and Kurdish universities."
