Deputy Prime Minister meets Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy

Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani received David Burger, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Iraq, and they spoke about the parliamentary elections in Kurdistan, the disputes in the Peshmerga Ministry, the internal situation in the Kurdistan Region, and the ties between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.

Daban Shadala, Deputy Head of the Foreign Relations Department for the Kurdistan Regional Government, was present at the meeting on Wednesday in Erbil. The US delegation insisted that the Peshmerga Ministry's issues be fixed immediately because they have a direct bearing on the progress of the reform. 

As such, the Deputy Prime Minister concurred that it was urgent to resolve the problems plaguing the Ministry of Peshmerga in order to mitigate the threats posed by the escalating tensions. 

The meeting also covered the upcoming Kurdistan parliamentary elections. Talabani said, "We are ready to hold elections on the date set by the presidency. Until then, the political parties must resolve their problems through dialogue for a clean and fair election."

The meeting also discussed the Kurdistan Region's position and the dangers it faces. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his deep concern for the internal situation in the region, saying, "At this point, the Kurdistan Region faces more danger than ever. Therefore, political parties must cooperate to resolve their differences and safeguard the Region, as all parties will be held accountable if the Area is compromised. 

Talabani highlighted the importance of improving relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad by saying, "After settling the internal issues, the Kurdish parties should coordinate in Baghdad to protect the constitutional rights of the Kurds."
