A detainee from Badinan is denied medical treatment by the Erbil Adult Reform Directorate, forcing two more of the Badinan detainees to go on a hunger strike.

Ayhan Saeed, a spokesperson of Badinan detainees, told PUKMEDIA: "One of the Badinan detainees, Hariwan Isa, was placed in solitary confinement for receiving medical treatment; consequently, Isa and his fellow inmate Ayaz Karam went on a hunger strike to protest the oppression they are suffering."

Saeed added: "Isa has a long-term illness and requires constant medical treatment, such as pills and injections, but the Erbil Adult Reform Administration prevents him from using them. Furthermore, based on an illegal and conspiratorial decision, the Badinan detainees have been separated from each other and each has been placed in a separate hall, and the contacts of some of their relatives have been blocked so that they have no information about the detainees' whereabouts."

He stated: "This punishment and psychological warfare against Badinan detainees has very serious intents and goes against the fundamental principles of human rights and law."

“In accordance with the court decision, the Kurdistan Region's president's reduction of their sentences by 60, and Law No. 23 of the Penal Court of Penalties, prisoners must be released because they have legitimately completed out their sentences and even remained behind bars longer,” he added.
