Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), assured the Iraqi Environment Minister that the PUK will support any initiatives aimed at reducing the effects of climate change.

On Monday, January 2nd, President Bafel met with the Iraqi Minister of Environment, Nizar Amedi, to address climate change and its effects on the country's environment.

Nizar Amedi, who was a close companion to President Mam Jalal when he was Iraq's president and who has rendered important services, was complimented by President Bafel for his efforts and hard work at the meeting.

"I have no doubt that you will approach this new duty with the same enthusiasm and rich expertise and endeavor to serve the nation," President Bafel told Minister Amedi

President Bafel said: "Unfortunately, climate change has had a negative impact on the environment of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Therefore, we will support you in any efforts you make to protect the environment."

He added: "The drive to plant one million trees in the Kurdistan Region is part of the PUK's effort to prioritize the environment in its endeavors."

Under the guidance of President Bafel, the PUK has recently started a nationwide drive to plant one million trees. The process has already began in Sulaymaniyah Province.
