Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), arrived in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad on Saturday, December 24th, to hold several important and political meetings related to the situation in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

President Bafel: We support all forces and parties that want to serve the country

At first, President Bafel met Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, President of Iraq, and reiterated that the PUK supports all forces and parties that want to serve the country.

The two sides also discussed the latest political developments and stressed unifying national efforts to make the political process a success and to protect the stability and the government's endeavors to serve the citizens.

President Bafel voiced his support for all positive endeavors being made towards political, economic and social stability, and said: "We support all forces and parties that want to serve the country."

President Bafel: Implementing agreements is a key factor in the success of the political process

President Bafel emphasized that implementing the agreements is a key factor for the success of the political process when he met Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani, Iraq's Prime Minister.

 

President Bafel also stressed the implementation of the national and constitutional points included in the program of the new government and asked the prime minister to send the financial dues of the Kurdistan Region. He also explained that the national agreement between the political parties on administering the state was an important step towards overcoming the disfavored political situation in Iraq, but what is more important is compliance and implementation of the points of the agreement.

The PUK President reiterated the Kurdistan Region's desire to radically address the issues between the two sides and called for the negotiation committees to be more effective and to show flexibility toward the people's wishes and demands.

In response, the Iraqi Prime Minister assured President Bafel that the rights and financial dues of the Kurdistan Region will be guaranteed. He said: "The PUK has been a major partner in forming the government and is also one of the main and important partners in the government." "With the support of the PUK, we will serve the whole of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region."

President Bafel stresses accelerating steps to resolve issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad

 

President Bafel emphasized that solving problems between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad should be accelerated when he met Fayaq Zedan, Chairman of Iraq's Supreme Judicial Council.

During the meeting, the two sides stressed adherence to the constitution and implementation of the decisions of the Supreme Judicial Council and courts to serve law enforcement and protect the rights of all Iraqis.

They also emphasized that steps to solve problems between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad should be accelerated, and the two sides called for the constitution to be a basis for solving issues.

President Bafel referred to the role of the Supreme Judicial Council, saying: "I hope that the legal and constitutional decisions will lead to ending the problems and moving towards justice and stability, and we will be cooperative and supportive in achieving this."
