President Salih, Al-Kadhimi discuss current situation in Iraq

On Wednesday, 3 August 2022, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi. The meeting took place in al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.

Overall conditions and the latest developments in politics and in security related-matters in Iraq were discussed during the meeting.

Both leaders emphasized how important it was to maintain security and stability in the country and work towards easing tensions and de-escalating the situation.

To do so, all concerned parties have to engage in a serious frank responsible dialogue to review the crisis, they jointly agreed.

Furthermore, the two officials went on to say that, in this way, we can set up a political chart of Iraq and find an effective solution that protects the country's supreme national interest and assures citizens that their demands and their aspirations will be met.

Talks focus on the importance of bringing the national positions together and boosting our internal forces, and on the need to step up our collective efforts to prevent any possible escalation and prevent those who aim to destabilize our country.

To this end, we have to remain vigilant, that some remaining cells of the extremist group known as the Islamic State (IS) trying to undermine stability and security in some parts of Iraq, Both Officials said, so Iraqi security services have to be supported to do everything in its power to ensure security and stability.
