President Salih meets with UNAMI chief

On Wednesday, 3 August 2022, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Iraq, Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert. The meeting was held at al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.

Politics and recent developments- related matters in Iraq were discussed during the meeting and reviewed the way out of the current political crisis.

Participants in the meeting agreed that how important it was to ensure security and stability in Iraq and work towards having a further dialogue between all parties to find effective solutions where the citizens' aspirations could be met.

Our country's circumstances call for calming tensions and engaging in a sincere, serious dialogue addressing the country's political crisis to chart out the political future for Iraq, President Salih said.

The country's supreme national interest must be above all other considerations, he added, while civil and social peace must be enhanced, by taking all the needed measures to safeguard Iraq.

The UNAMI Chief, in her turn, said that the UNAMI will continue to support the dialogue between all concerned parties to reach a solution that ensures security and stability in Iraq, and meets the Iraqi people's demands for a better time.
