Mine explosion kills three teenagers in Diyala

Iraq 10:23 AM - 2022-08-01

Three teenage boys were killed and another injured in a bomb blast in the disputed Gulala town of Diyala Governorate.

In this regard, Colonel Shamal Abdulrahman, director of Asayish in Kulajo told PUKmedia that the incident occurred on Sunday at 5:20 pm (local time) when four teenage boys found a mine in the Faraj Arab village in Gulala town.

The mine exploded when the boys were playing with it after they took it home.

The bodies of the three children were sent to Gulala hospital and the injured child is currently under medical care.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.

There is no information about who planted the mine but some regions are still under the effect of previous wars in Iraq.

The so-called Islamic State or ISIS seized large swathes of Iraqi territory in 2014, declaring a "caliphate" and killing thousands (many of whom were the Yazidis in Sinjar) there before Baghdad declared victory in 2017. Despite their defeat, the terrorists remain active in the country, especially active in the regions disputed between Erbil and Baghdad.

Iraq is still in the process of eliminating remnants of ISIS terrorists who ambush, kidnap, and extort both civilians and members of the security forces in the disputed areas, which stretch across several provinces, including Kirkuk, Nineveh, Diyala, and Saladin.
