The Spokesman for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Dr. Soran Jamal Tahir, confirmed that the Patriotic Union is continuing its dialogues with political forces and parties to end the political blockage and form a strong government capable of meeting the aspirations of citizens.
In an interview with the Kirkuk channel, Dr. Tahir stated, "Iraq is going through a complex critical stage, and from the beginning, we in PUK were supporting consensus and understanding, and we believed that dialogue is the best way to address political differences, and we did not want the Kurds to be a part of the conflicts between Iraqi political forces and parties."
Taher stressed the need to respect the participation of the various components of Iraq in the next government in order to ensure the formation of a developed government that meets the aspirations of the citizens and is moving the country towards safety and stability.
Regarding the situation in the Kurdistan Region, the PUK spokesman said, "Based on PUK's participation and responsibilities in the regional government, it has taken responsibility and has seriously exerted great efforts to improve the living conditions of citizens."
He called on the Kurdistan Regional Government to intensify its efforts to address the shortcomings and secure essential services for citizens in the educational and health sectors, revive the commercial movement, secure job opportunities for youth, and provide public services.
Tahir indicated that the dialogues between PUK and Kurdistan Democratic Party, on one hand, and the political forces on the other, contributed to creating a positive atmosphere, pointing out, "There is a rapprochement between us towards addressing the political and economic problems and obstacles in the region."
Regarding the ongoing dialogues between political parties to hold parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region, the PUK spokesman said that PUK does not want to postpone the elections and calls for activating the works of the Electoral Commission, amending the election law in coordination with political parties and adopting the multi-constituency system so that minorities be able to elect their representatives without interference or dictations. In addition to the necessity of clearing voter records and adopting the biometric system for voting.
In response to a question about the situation in Kirkuk and the disputed Kurdish areas, Dr. Tahir stated that PUK always emphasized the need to protect coexistence and the rights of components in the city of Kirkuk, and at the PUK Forum, many discussions took place and many recommendations were also issued on the subject.
"PUK seeks to serve Kirkuk and the citizens of disputed areas through a comprehensive program, without discrimination, and considers this a top priority, especially since the people of those areas suffer from injustice, discrimination, and lack of services," he added.
