Trump Criticises House Vote to Limit War Powers Over Iran.

Iran The US

US President Donald Trump has dismissed a House of Representatives vote seeking to limit his war powers in relation to Iran, describing the measure as “meaningless”.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticised the vote, which was supported by all Democratic lawmakers and four Republican representatives. He argued that the move came while his administration was engaged in negotiations with Iran and suggested it could undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Trump also accused Democrats of opposing him for political reasons and criticised the four Republican lawmakers who backed the resolution, describing them as attention seekers.

House Passes War Powers Resolution

The House of Representatives approved the resolution on Thursday by 215 votes to 208 after four Republicans joined Democrats in supporting the measure.

The resolution seeks to limit the President’s ability to continue military action against Iran without congressional authorisation and calls for the withdrawal of US forces unless further action is approved by Congress.

Some Republican lawmakers opposed the measure, arguing that it could weaken the President’s position in negotiations with Tehran.

In recent remarks, Trump said the United States was close to reaching an agreement with Iran and indicated that negotiations were progressing positively.

According to ABC News, a White House official described the resolution as “unconstitutional”, arguing that even if it were approved by the Senate, it would have little practical effect. The official said the President would continue to exercise his constitutional authority as commander-in-chief to protect US national security.
