PUK President: Balance and Partnership Must Guide Next KRG Cabinet

PUK President’s meeting with Turkish Ambassador.
President Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met in Erbil with Türkiye’s Ambassador to Iraq, Anil Bora İnan.
The meeting was attended by Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and Türkiye’s Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, Arman Topçu. Discussions centred on the overall situation in Iraq and the wider region, with both sides underlining the importance of coordination and cooperation among all parties to achieve peaceful solutions to existing challenges.
The formation of the next Kurdistan Regional Government was also discussed. President Bafel Jalal Talabani outlined the PUK’s position, stressing that “balance and partnership must be upheld in the next government”.
On relations between Erbil and Baghdad, President Bafel emphasised the need to resolve outstanding issues in line with the Constitution. He noted that improved ties had positively affected citizens’ lives and the delivery of public services, adding that this progress should continue.
Regarding the situation in Kirkuk, Ambassador İnan commended President Bafel and the PUK for their role in bringing political parties closer together and fostering a spirit of coexistence. He described recent political agreements as an important step towards improving services in the city and strengthening fraternity among Kirkuk’s diverse communities.
Both sides also highlighted the importance of further developing relations between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region and Türkiye on the basis of shared interests.
