Every year, the benevolent and affluent people of Slemani donate money and food commodities for more than 3,000 fasting people in the Great Mosque, where all nationalities gather at one table in which they pray for good, peace, and unity.

Muhammad Sheikh Salar, the grandson of the supervisor of the Great Mosque, told PUKmedia, "The mosque, since its founding by Ibrahim Pasha Baban in 1784, has been a haven for the poor and needy and a center of Islamic teachings."

"In Ramadan, we see people of all races and ages, women, men, different nationalities, and the needy who come to the Great Mosque to break their fasts at Rahman (Most Merciful) Tables in which the benevolent people of the city donate money and food and the volunteers in the mosque prepare them to gather all Iraqis in one table and one country,' he added.

Muhammad Fayyad, an Iraqi IDP, told PUKmedia, "The most famous Great Mosque in Slemani and Iraq as well is known as the home of the poor, and in Ramadan, we visit it to break our fasts and sit with our brothers without knowing their nationalities at one table and one food."

The Great Mosque of Slemani was built in 1785 by Ibrahim Pasha Baban. It contains 3 small cemeteries and the shrine of Haji Kaka Ahmed and his grandson, King Mahmood. Situated at the heart of the city, hundreds of people visit the mosque for prayer and to visit the shrines.
