With the arrival of the spring season every year, the demand for natural cooking herbs increases in the Kurdistan Region.

Natural herbs are highly consumed in the Kurdistan Region. Many Kurdish cuisines include various types of herbs.

According to Rizgar Margai who is a herbal specialist in the Kurdistan Region, the Kurdistan region's geographical location has made it a fertile land for natural herbs.

Natural herbs are very important for the environment, for the beauty of the plains, they are also used for food, as well as medicine.

"Natural herbs have good and positive benefits for the human body and with the arrival of spring, fruit and vegetable sellers turn to sell spring herbs," Margai told PUKmedia.

These natural herbs are usually available in remote rural areas and mountainous regions where there is clean and clear air. Collectors head to these regions from early morning hours to collect fresh natural herbs and then bring them to the local market for selling.

"Besides their delicious taste, natural herbs also have health benefits," Margai said.

There are many different types of herbs in the Kurdistan Region, such as arum (kardu), gundelia (Kangir), Tolaka,  rheum ribes (rewas)... etc.

These natural herbs are also alternatives to medicines on some occasions.
