Campaign to raise awareness on animal rights at schools and kindergartens of Slemani

PAK Organizations for animal rights advocacy in Slemani organized a campaign to raise awareness about animal rights in a move to curb violence against stray animals and plant the culture of raising pets at homes.

Volunteers of the PAK Organization visited several schools and kindergartens to give lectures on stray animals and raising pets to the younger generation.

Dr. Avin Hama Amin, a volunteer in the PAK Organization, told PUKmedia that the educational campaign was launched months ago under the slogan "Together to protect animals".

"It is an initiative by our organization to teach children and students in schools at young ages how to protect, care and be kind to pets and not to harm them by giving them theoretical and practical lectures in teaching classes in kindergartens and schools," she said.

Principal of the Bwar Kindergarten, Rinas Muhammad, told PUKmedia, "We are pleased that the PAK Organization attended to teach children the importance of saving animals, which is a good gesture to raise awareness among children to learn love, tenderness, and kindness with animals."

Stray animals like cats and dogs have grown a lot in recent years following the growth of animal rights advocacy organizations in the Kurdistan Region. While some find the move as good as animals are also souls whom we share this world with, many find them as disturbing and dangerous within the society.

A dog shelter opened two months ago in Arbat, Slemani because there were too many complaints about stray dogs in the city's center. According to the citizens, the dogs were hurting people and disturbing them.

However, the shelter suffered a huge blow when dozens of dogs were found dead at the shelter a few weeks after the opening.

The PAK Organization is a non-governmental volunteer organization that protects and rescues animals in Kurdistan.  

The organization has had many activities to protect animals that suffer from abuse and castration, sterilizing stray cats and dogs, and encouraging and raising awareness regarding animal protection through educational activities at schools and community circles.
