UN strongly condemns attack on Erbil

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) condemned the missile attack that targeted the city of Erbil last night.

"UNAMI strongly condemns heinous missile attacks on Erbil. Iraqis are called upon to stand together in the face of any act that violates Iraq’s sovereignty/territorial integrity, and/or aims to undermine stability/unity. Perpetrators of this cowardly attack must be held to account," the mission said in a tweet on Twitter.

Earlier on Sunday, Iraq's state media announced that the security forces have opened an investigation into the bombing incident that targeted the city of Erbil.

A dozen missiles struck the Kurdistan Region's capital Erbil early Sunday morning, the governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw said on Sunday.

Khoshnaw said in a press statement that several missiles fell on the city of Erbil without knowing information about the attacking party.
