PUK Forum: Comprehensive renewal, reforms and the right to self-determination

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) forum is scheduled to be held at the beginning of next May.

Qubad Talabani, the supervisor of the Secretariat Office of President Mam Jalal, launched the PUK Forum last Thursday, under the slogan (PUK For What?).

The forum is aimed at a comprehensive renewal of all party institutions, following the path of President Mam Jalal, as stated by Bafel Jalal Talabani: The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan is an authentic party, with a goal, and innovation. It strives for national and patriotic rights and works for the principles of human rights, peace, democracy, and the right to self-determination.

"In this station of radical changes, which is a return to the wise policy of the nation's late president, Mam Jalal, we make reform the basis for renewal and strengthening the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, We will energize all organs of the party to work harder and more active so that they can carry out their duties and work more faithfully.

The long-term, political, economic, social, and organizational strategy that serves the political and governing environment in Iraq, we make of it a source of our tasks.

The enthusiastic youth and our active women are an infinite force for this renewed party and will lead this blessed struggle.

The old peshmerga, political prisoners, and battlefield victims have a great value for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, and we will make their experiences a vanguard of our work.

The glory and sincerity of the people of Kurdistan is a historical and permanent goal of this struggling party, and for this, no force will be able to stop us."

PUK Spokesman: PUK Forum aims to continue the path of President Mam Jalal

The Spokesman for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Amin Baba Sheikh, issued a statement explaining the purpose of launching the PUK Forum.

Below is the text of his statement:

The goal of the PUK Forum is to discuss the history of our march, to continue the path of President Mam Jalal, and to formulate realistic and national future policies.

The PUK has a long history, a history full of national achievements. The PUK, led by President Mam Jalal and his companions, had a clear ideology and a vision for all stages and eras of life. The outburst of the new revolution of the people of Kurdistan led by President Mam Jalal was a comprehensive intellectual project to defend the fair cause of the people of Kurdistan. And the declaration of principles and literature of the new revolution came from national political ideas that were based on respect for human rights and citizenship. This serious political vision led the PUK and the Kurdistan Front to the victory in the uprising of the people of Kurdistan in 1991, and then the PUK led the project to establish the administration of the Kurdistan Region in 1992 through elections, which is one of the most important achievements. Also, the idea of a "federal system" was the project of President Mam Jalal and the leadership of the PUK.

The PUK had a clear intellectual vision always and had accurate perceptions of future events and developments in all political fields, and was dealing with them realistically and patriotically because President Mam Jalal and his companions believed and struggled for democracy and freedom and the fair cause of their people.

Today, we must preserve our history and our past, which is full of sacrifices and achievements. We must also continue the path of President Mam Jalal and his companions, strive for freedom, democracy, and social justice, and to make “reform and change” the principles of our ideology and daily work in all governmental and partisan fields. The establishment of the Kurdistan Regional Government was a great achievement and a sound decision, but this government and the administration in our region need persistent reforms to serve the stage and the citizens together.

It is necessary to confront the political, economic, social, security, and military challenges and difficulties with scientific, logical, and diplomatic ways, far from risks and political polemics.

The project of the PUK Forum includes consolidating the principles of "continuity, renewal, our national values, and our future", and defining a clear and transparent futuristic national political vision.

PUK leader: PUK forum is for anyone who wants to express their views

A leader in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) confirmed that the goal of PUK's Forum is to continue the path of President Mam Jalal and formulate realistic and national future policies.

Fahmi Burhan, a member of PUK's Leadership Council, told PUKmedia, "PUK has made great initiatives and had a great role in consolidating federalism, municipal and student elections and providing freedom, and we believe that PUK is the party of future generations."

"PUK must be part of the recent variables and reformulate its policy in a manner commensurate with the new variables," he added.

Burhan explained that through this Forum, PUK seeks to reformulate its policy for the future and revealed that they had held several meetings with the different sectors and will make the recommendations as a roadmap for future works.

He also revealed that the Forum is not only for PUK's cadres, and it will greet anyone who wants to participate to express their suggestions and opinions.

He pointed out that PUK wants to listen to the views of the professors, the intellectuals, and those interested in the political events in Kurdistan. 

"The project of PUK will be to consolidate the principles of continuity, renewal, national values, and our future," he added.

PUK's Forum is a collegial and patriotic appeal to discuss and review PUK's current reality, to review its political and social discourses, and enhance its perception in order to be able, by adopting new perspectives, to improve fulfilling the duty of serving the people of Kurdistan and their homeland.

PUK Forum: Questions and solutions to obstacles

Almas Fadil, former MP of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan bloc in the Iraqi Council of Representatives, told PUKmedia about the Forum: "The forum will be comprehensive, include the political, economic, social, and many other Topics, It will also address the latest developments and reforms.

"The only difference between the forum and the congress is that there will be no elections in the Forum, and the Forum will include reforms within the Union and the exchange of opinions,  as well as intense discussion on the future of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan," she said.

Almas Fadil also explained, In the Forum, the PUK members can discuss on those issues that raise questions and find ways to address obstacles.

Politician: PUK Forum will determine the future roadmap of the party 

The Kurdish writer and politician Salar Mahmoud emphasized that the upcoming forum of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan will determine the future roadmap of the party.

Mahmoud said in an exclusive statement to PUKmedia on Sunday: "The PUK Forum, which will be launched at the beginning of next May, aims to formulate policies, establish a new vision with the aim of real reforms within the institutions of the PUK, and issues related to administration in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region from the standpoint of the PUK."

He explained that the forum will be attended by all the institutions of the PUK and that the participants will have a vision on the mechanism of renewal and the provision of services by the PUK to citizens and a return to the principles of serving citizens, taking into account the foundations of real reforms within the PUK, developing the capabilities of youth and women, and supporting intellectuals within the PUK.

"The PUK Forum will be held between two congresses and will set a sufficient time period for discussions and exchange of views and ideas in important sectors related to life and the service of the people of Kurdistan," he added.

Mahmoud pointed out that everyone will work together for a new formulation and move the PUK towards real reforms with the efforts and participation of the cadres of the PUK.

He indicated that the forum will witness great discussions, criticism, opinions to discuss previous negativities to formulate a new vision for a new stage within the PUK.

And he confirmed that the outputs and recommendations of the PUK Forum will determine the roadmap of the party.
