On Tuesday, the United States of America congratulated the Iraqi government and its security forces for arresting the suspect in the Karrada bombing in central Baghdad.
The US embassy in Baghdad said in a statement, "the United States congratulates the Government of Iraq and its security forces on the capture of the suspect for the bombing of the Al-Laith complex in Karrada in 2016."
"Five years ago, this terrorist attack in Karrada killed and injured hundreds of innocent civilians. We stand in remembrance of the victims of this horrific act of terror," the statement added.
The statement stressed that yesterday’s arrest represents a crucial step forward in bringing those responsible to justice and in Iraq’s continued fight to ensure the enduring defeat of Da’esh.
It is noteworthy that a series of bombings took place in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on the morning of Sunday, July 3, 2016, the most prominent of which was the eastern Karrada explosion, which resulted in the death of more than 324 people and the wounding of 250 others.
