The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) says that it is ready to initiate negotiation to achieve the rights of the Kurdish people in Baghdad.
"To achieve the legitimate rights of our people within the framework of the constitution, we will take the initiative to negotiate for Kurdish unity and unanimity in Baghdad. We also welcome the initiatives of the political parties aimed at the same purpose," the PUK's spokesperson Amin Baba Sheikh said in a statement on Monday.
"We have plans to start negotiations and visits to parties, particularly the parties in the Kurdistan Region, after announcing the final results of the Iraqi parliament election, and that our goal is to go to Baghdad with one voice," he added.
The PUK, who participated in the recent Iraqi elections in a joint list with the Gorran Movement party under the name of the Kurdistan Coalition, won 16 seats in the Iraqi parliament.
Last week, the general voting process for the early elections of the Iraqi Parliament took place all over Iraq, which ended with a low turnout of only 41 %. Candidates were competing for 329 seats in the Iraqi Parliament Council.
The country held the elections months ahead of its time. Early elections were one of the demands of the protesters who took to the Iraqi streets in October 2019 to vent their anger and frustration at the government's inability to fight corruption and provide them with security and stability.
