In Khurmal district of Halabja governorate, a teacher at the Aweser School, keeps on teaching first-grade students at his school despite being on the summer holidays to teach children the classes they missed last term due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr. Abdulla Hama Gharib, a teacher at the Awesar School, wants to make up for the last term's lost classes as schools were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Despite the summer holidays in schools, I bring students back to school and teach them the essentials as schools were mostly closed last year due to the coronavirus and teachers were unable to complete school curriculum in their time," Mr. Gharib told PUKmedia.

"I want to make up for the previous education term this summer, so I bring kids to the school and teach them the important classes," he added.

School studies were in a continuous on and off state in the Kurdistan Region due to the corona pandemic since early 2020.

First-grade is essential for students as children get to know school and learn how to read and write. Children are registered in schools at the age of 6 in the Kurdistan Region.

Awesar Primary School in Khurmal district includes the first 6 grades for students in the area.

More than 455 students study at the school, 65 of them are first-grade students who missed last term of the curriculum.

In addition to the curriculum, the teacher also encourages the students to continue their studies and teaches them songs, poems, and different kinds of science.

Mr. Gharib also pointed out that Khurmal district has 12 schools and Kindergartens and more than 7,000 students have completed their studies in the past season.
