Students will study in classes for the new school year in Iraq, the Iraqi Education Minister said on Sunday.

"The new school year will start throughout Iraq and students will be present in schools every day," said Iraqi Education Minister, Ali Hamid Al-Dulaimi.

He also pointed out that both students and teacher must abide by the health procedures at schools and for this purpose, they have cooperation with the Iraqi ministry of health.

The Undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Education, Falah Al-Qaisi, affirmed last June that the next school year (2021-2022) will start next November.

School studies were in a continuous on and off state in Iraq due to the corona pandemic since early 2020.

The Iraqi Ministry of Education decided to adopt mid-year exams as a final grade for students of unfinished classes to end the 2020-2021 academic school year.

The coronavirus infection rates have recently surged in Iraq after the outbreak of the Delta variant with doctors continuously calling for people to take the coronavirus vaccine to help in curbing infection rates.

Iraq has authorized the use of Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Sinopharm vaccines and over 2,115,456 people have received the coronavirus vaccines in the Region so far and the number keeps increasing.

So far, Iraq has recorded over 1,704,000 coronavirus cases with more than 1,520,000 recoveries and over  19,100 deaths from the virus.
