The Great Mosque, located in the center of Sulaymaniyah, continues to hold banquets throughout the year, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan, over a thousand people from citizens and tourists visit the mosque to join the feast every day.

Haji Iqbal Latif, who has been a cook in the Great Mosque for 7 years, told PUKmedia that the mosque prepares meals for the fasting people daily and then distribute the meals to the attendees after the sunset prayer

Their food consists mostly of rice and bean broth with chicken.

"The food preparation ends at four o'clock every day," Haji Latif added, "but due to coronavirus measures, the mosque decided to distribute the food to citizens to eat it outside the mosque and practice social distancing measures."

According to Haji Latif, about 1500 to 2000 people are fed in the mosque daily, from citizens to tourists, especially Arabs, and those coming to the city from central and southern Iraq.

The Great Mosque of Sulaymaniyah was built in 1785 by Ibrahim Pasha Baban. It contains 3 small cemeteries and the shrine of Haji Kaka Ahmed and his grandson, King Mahmood. Situated at the heart of the city, hundreds of people visit the mosque for prayer and to visit the shrines.
