An explosion heard in eastern Tehran province on Saturday was caused by the controlled disposal of ammunition left over from the war, Iranian state media reported, citing a local official.

The official said the operation posed no danger to residents and that no incident had taken place.

Earlier on Saturday, Iranian state media reported that residents in Pakdasht and Qiyamdasht had heard a blast in the eastern part of Tehran province. The source and exact location of the explosion were initially unclear.

Authorities later confirmed that the sound was linked to a planned operation to dispose of remaining ammunition.
