Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi has ordered the launch of investigations into several major contracts previously signed by ministries and government institutions, as part of ongoing efforts to combat corruption and safeguard public funds.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Prime Minister’s Media Office and received by PUKMEDIA, the directive was issued in line with the government’s ministerial programme and broader anti-corruption measures.
The statement said al-Zaidi instructed the relevant oversight bodies and law enforcement agencies to begin examining a number of significant contracts in order to assess their compliance with laws and regulations, as well as their adherence to public rights and interests.
The investigations are intended to identify any shortcomings, uncover potential misuse of public funds, and determine whether any individuals benefited from the contracts at the expense of the public interest.
The Prime Minister also directed that the findings be referred to the appropriate judicial authorities as swiftly as possible in order to protect public money, pursue those implicated in any wrongdoing, and ensure they are brought to justice.
