Iraqi President Nizar Amedi reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening education, reinforcing state authority and advancing regional stability during the graduation ceremony of the inaugural class of students from the American University of Baghdad on Saturday.

President Amedi described the occasion as “an important milestone in Iraq’s academic and national journey,” congratulating the graduates and their families and expressing confidence in the ability of Iraq’s younger generations to contribute to the country’s reconstruction, development and future prosperity.

“Iraq’s future will be shaped by the ambition, knowledge and determination of its young people,” the president said, emphasizing the importance of empowering a new generation capable of driving progress and innovation across the country.

He also praised the university’s academic and administrative leadership, expressing hope that the institution would become “a dynamic center of learning and innovation” alongside Iraq’s long-established universities and respected academic institutions.

President Amedi stressed that the Presidency of the Republic would continue working closely with the executive authorities and the elected government to support “every sincere national effort aimed at advancing education, modernising institutions and creating the foundations necessary for sustainable development.”

On regional affairs, the president reaffirmed Iraq’s support for efforts to restore stability and end conflicts through diplomacy and dialogue.

“We remain committed to supporting all efforts aimed at restoring regional security and stability, ending ongoing conflicts, respecting the will of the peoples of the region, and achieving a just and lasting peace through diplomacy and constructive dialogue,” he said.

Addressing domestic security, President Amedi underscored the importance of strengthening national consensus and reinforcing the authority of the state through its constitutional military and security institutions.

“Safeguarding stability and reinforcing the rule of law require that arms remain exclusively in the hands of the state, and that no force operates outside the constitutional framework,” the president said, noting that the principle is firmly rooted in the Iraqi Constitution and consistently advocated by the nation’s senior religious authority.

He added that achieving these objectives represents “an essential step toward consolidating sovereignty, preserving national unity and strengthening public confidence in state institutions.”
