The Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) issued a message of congratulations to the people of Kurdistan in general, and to the families of the Anfal victims in particular, following the death sentence handed down to Ajaj Ahmed Hardan al-Tikriti, known as the executioner of Nugrat al-Salman and one of the killers of the Anfal victims.

The statement reads as follows:

The PUK Political Bureau extends its warmest congratulations to the people of Kurdistan, and especially to the families of the Anfal victims, on the trial of one of the most notorious executioners of the Anfal campaign — the criminal responsible for the murder of Kurds in Nugrat al-Salman prison, the infamous Ajaj, whose brutality and bloodshed left deep scars on our people — and on the issuance of a just verdict against him.

On Thursday, 14 May 2026, the Rusafa Court in Baghdad witnessed the delivery of a historic and just ruling against Ajaj Ahmed Hardan al-Tikriti, infamous for his role in the Anfal operations as one of the Ba’athist regime’s most ruthless criminals. He committed appalling crimes on a daily basis against the women, mothers, elderly people, and children detained in Nugrat al-Salman prison. He stood as a symbol of the barbarity of the former Ba’athist regime against our people.

The trial of Ajaj sends a clear message to all enemies and opponents of the Kurdish people: the day of justice, accountability, and the restoration of the rights of our oppressed people will inevitably arrive, sooner or later, and no criminal will escape punishment.

Victory to justice and fairness in the new federal Iraq. May the aspirations for which thousands sacrificed their lives finally be realised.

May the souls of the martyrs rest in peace, and congratulations once again to the families of the Anfal victims.
