Kurdistan VP Discusses ISIS Threat & Peshmerga Reforms with British Military Adviser

Kurdistan Region VP Meets British Military Adviser.
On Monday, 11 May 2026, Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, received Colonel Chris Hellier, the British military adviser to the Global Coalition against ISIS.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest political and security developments in Iraq and the wider region, as well as the relations between the United Kingdom, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region. They also reviewed the continued threat posed by ISIS and its implications for regional security and stability.
The Vice President expressed the Kurdistan Region’s appreciation for the United Kingdom’s ongoing support to both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, commending the role of British forces within the Global Coalition against ISIS.
For his part, Colonel Hellier reaffirmed the UK’s continued commitment to supporting Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, stressing the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the surrounding region.
The meeting also touched on reforms within the Ministry of Peshmerga, including ongoing efforts to unify the Peshmerga forces under the ministry’s structure. The latest developments in the Middle East and their impact on regional security were also discussed.
