Asayish Announce Dismantling of International Drug Trafficking Network in Kurdistan Region

The Kurdistan Region Asayish (Security) Agency have announced the arrest of an international drug trafficking network.

In a statement obtained by PUKMEDIA, the Asayish said: “During a recent joint operation conducted in cooperation with the Iraqi National Intelligence Service, the Protection and Information Agency, and the General Directorate for Combating Narcotics of the Asayish, an international drug trafficking network operating across several Iraqi provinces and the Kurdistan Region was dismantled.”

The statement added that the operation led to the seizure of “more than one million Captagon pills and 100 kilogrammes of hashish, preventing the smuggling of these substances out of the country.”

The Asayish further clarified that “all those arrested are being held under Article 28 of Iraq’s Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017, and investigations remain ongoing.”
