Iraqi Parliament Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi announced that parliament will receive the government programme from Prime Minister-designate Ali al-Zaidi by the end of this week to be reviewed by the parliament.

At the opening of Monday’s parliamentary session on 4 May 2026, al-Halbousi stated that the names of the proposed cabinet ministers would be submitted next week for a parliamentary vote.

During its 22nd session, chaired by al-Halbousi and attended by 217 members, the Iraqi parliament concluded discussions on four bills.

Iraq’s largest parliamentary bloc, the Coordination Framework, nominated Ali al-Zaidi as Prime Minister on 27 April 2026. Subsequently, Iraqi President Nizar Amedi formally tasked him with forming the next cabinet of the federal government.
