Iraq's Prime Minister-Designate Ali al-Zaidi Arrives in Sulaymaniyah for Talks with PUK President

Iraqi Prime Minister-designate Ali al-Zaidi arrived in Sulaymaniyah on Saturday evening, 2 May 2026, where he was received at the Jalal Talabani International Airport by Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

Also present at the reception ceremony were Qubad Talabani, Darbaz Kosrat Rasul and Khalid Shwani, members of the PUK Political Bureau, as well as Haval Abubakr.

During his visit, al-Zaidi is expected to visit the mausoleum of President Mam Jalal before holding talks with President Bafel on the formation of the new Iraqi government.

Al-Zaidi has begun a series of consultations with political parties following his designation as Iraqi prime minister by Iraqi President Nizar Amedi. As part of these efforts, he has also visited Erbil.
