Kurdistan VP Meets Italian CG in Erbil.

The Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, received the Consul General of Italy in the Kurdistan Region, Tommaso Sansone, on Monday, 27 April 2026.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest political and security developments in the wider region, efforts to counter the threat posed by ISIS, and ongoing discussions regarding the reform and unification of the Peshmerga forces.

The talks also underlined the importance of strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and Italy. Both sides exchanged views on the complex regional situation and the impact of ongoing conflicts in the region, stressing the need to continue diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting stability and finding peaceful solutions.

Relations between Baghdad and Erbil, as well as the process of forming new governments in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, were also on the agenda, alongside a review of the latest efforts and steps taken in the political process.
