World Leaders Congratulate Nizar Amedi on His Election as Iraq's President

World leaders have extended their congratulations to Nizar Amedi following his election as President of the Republic of Iraq.

The Iraqi Parliament, in a session held on Saturday, elected Nizar Amedi, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) candidate, as President of the Republic of Iraq.

During the first round of voting, Amedi received 208 votes, placing him ahead of other candidates. In the second round, in which 249 out 329 members of parliament participated, he secured 227 votes, formally becoming President of the Republic.

U.S. Mission in Iraq Congratulates Nizar Amedi

The U.S. Mission in Iraq has extended its sincere congratulations to President Nizar Amedi as he begins his duties as the President of Iraq.

In a statement, the Mission said it looks forward to working with the incoming Iraqi leadership in advancing a sovereign, stable, and prosperous future for all Iraqis, in mutually beneficial partnership with the United States.

UK Welcomes Election of President Nizar Amedi

The United Kingdom has welcomed the appointment of Nizar Amedi as President of the Republic of Iraq.

In a statement, Hamish Falconer, British Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, said: “The United Kingdom welcomes the appointment of His Excellency Nizar Amedi as President of the Republic of Iraq at this critical time.”

He added that the UK looks forward to strengthening ties with Iraq’s leadership, stating: “We look forward to continued cooperation with Iraq’s leadership and the new government once formed.”

French President Congratulates New Iraqi President

French President Emmanuel Macron extended congratulations to newly elected Iraqi President Nizar Amedi, reaffirming France's support to Iraq.

"I extend my sincerest congratulations to Nizar Al-Amidi on the occasion of his election as President of the Republic of Iraq," President Macron said in a statement on X.

"The stability of Iraq, the continuity of its institutions, and the full exercise of state sovereignty are matters more essential today than ever before for the country and the region," he added. "And France stands alongside its Iraqi partner."

Iranian President Congratulates Nizar Amedi on Election as Iraqi President

Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian has congratulated Nizar Amedi on his election as President of the Republic of Iraq.

In his message, President Pezeshkian referred to the historical, cultural and religious ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Iraq, describing both as influential countries in the region and the wider Islamic world.

“I am confident that cooperation between our two countries will expand across all fields during your presidency,” he said.

Russian President Congratulates New Iraqi President 

Russian President Vladimir Putin extended congratulations to Nizar Amedi on the occasion of his election as Iraq's new President.

President Putin wished President Amedi success in his new role, expressing hope that his efforts would contribute to further strengthening the longstanding and friendly relations between Iraq and Russia.

Oman’s Sultan Congratulates New Iraqi President 

Iraq's new President Nizar Amedi received a congratulatory message from Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq on the occasion of assuming office as President of the Republic.

In his message, Sultan Haitham extended his sincere congratulations and best wishes to President Amedi for success in carrying out his national duties, in a manner that fulfills the aspirations of the Iraqi people for further progress and prosperity. He also affirmed Oman’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing cooperation across various fields in a way that serves the mutual interests of both countries.

Arab Parliament Speaker Congratulates New Iraqi President, Hails National Consensus

President of the Republic Nizar Amedi received a message of congratulations from Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi on the occasion of his election as President of the Republic.

In his message, Al Yamahi extended his sincere congratulations and best wishes to President Amedi, praising the strong support he received as a reflection of broad national consensus and a shared political will to advance stability and state-building efforts.
