The bloc of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Iraqi parliament has issued a statement regarding tomorrow’s parliamentary session, calling on all parties to attend the session in order to meet the aspirations of the Iraqi people and to reinforce the political and democratic process.
The following is the PUK Bloc’s statement:
In light of the present circumstances in the country, and in response to the constitutional responsibilities long awaited by the Iraqi people, the PUK bloc in the Iraqi parliament stresses the urgent need to convene a parliamentary session tomorrow, Saturday, to fulfil the foremost constitutional duty: the election of the President of the Republic.
Sufficient time has already been afforded to resolve this matter, and ongoing disagreements must not serve as a pretext for obstructing the completion of constitutional obligations, which form the foundation for activating state institutions and safeguarding political and economic stability.
Any further delay in resolving this issue risks paralysing the functioning of the state and exacerbating economic, service, and security challenges that directly impact citizens’ daily lives. The Iraqi people look to the Iraqi parliament to rise to its constitutional duties, address both internal and external challenges, improve living standards, and create employment opportunities.
Driven by a sense of national responsibility, the PUK parliamentary bloc calls upon all Members of Parliament to attend tomorrow’s session, Saturday, 11 April, in order to meet the aspirations of our people and to reinforce the political and democratic process established through the sacrifices and dedication of those who gave their lives for Iraq and the freedom of its people.
