The Iraqi parliament is set to convene its 11th session next Saturday, with the election of the President of the Republic on the agenda.

In a statement, the parliament’s Media Office confirmed that the session will be devoted to electing the President, according to a press release obtained by PUKMEDIA.

Meanwhile, Speaker of parliament Haibat al-Halbousi affirmed during a previous session that the presidential vote will proceed as scheduled on Saturday, 11 April 2026.

In a related development, MP Dilan Ghafour of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) stated in an earlier interview with PUKMEDIA that PUK lawmakers will attend the session to finalise the vote on the presidential candidate.

She added that the current regional situation calls for the formation of a fully empowered government capable of addressing ongoing security, political and economic challenges, which requires completing the remaining constitutional procedures.
