The Iraqi Presidency has condemned the killing of a Peshmerga and his wife in the bombing of their home near Erbil, stressing that targeting civilian residences represents a dangerous escalation and a breach of international law.

In a statement received by PUKMEDIA, the Presidency said it had received, “with deep sorrow and grief”, news of the deaths of Musa and his wife Mzhda, who were killed when their home in an area near Erbil in the Kurdistan Region was struck in what it described as a tragic incident targeting unarmed civilians.

The statement added that such attacks constitute a serious escalation and violate the principles of international humanitarian law. It also extended its “deepest condolences and sincere sympathies” to the victims’ families, affirming solidarity with them and expressing readiness to provide the necessary support and care for their two children, ensuring their protection and dignified welfare.

The Presidency further reiterated its firm opposition to violence, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the adoption of dialogue as the means to resolve disputes, in order to strengthen security and stability in the region.

It also emphasised that the Iraqi people, in all their diversity, stand in solidarity with the Kurdistan Region, upholding the path of peace and supporting efforts to reinforce coexistence and stability, while rejecting any attacks on any part of the country and reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding Iraq’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the security of its citizens nationwide.
